What is an Emu?

Emu is a member of the ratite family, similiar to ostriches, rheas, kiwi and cassowary. They grow to about 5 - 6 feet tall from their heads, and are the second largest bird in the world and very docile.

Emu is a native of Australia and originally imported to the United States in 1930 - 1950 as exotic zoo stock. The average adult weights between 110 - 140 pounds.

Average life span of an emu is about 25 - 35 years.

Some people raise emus for their meat since emu meat is very lean and has a taste similar to beef, and their oil are used in cosmetic and beauty products.

Our Emus are our pets so they are free to roam as they choose on our fenced property. Their diet consist of commercial pellets called "ratite feed" which is a complete nutrition formula food along with foraging naturally off the land.
